SEVA IS ESSENTIALLY A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION.

# SEVA is a non profit, non religious, non political NGO, committed to addressing the growing social welfare needs of the rapidly expanding Australian South Asian community in Sydney . This includes people with Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan, Bangla Deshi, Nepali, Maldivian and Bhutanese ancestral background.

# SEVA is an entirely home grown Sydney based initiative by a representative core group of dedicated, committed individuals of South Asian background with diverse professional and personal expertise.

# SEVA seeks to act as a facilitator and integrator to enhance the physical, mental, cultural and social well being of the Australian South Asian community with clearly defined “ SMART ” – Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Result oriented, Time bound) - goals.

# SEVA sees itself as a liaison organization between its three main stake holders, the South Asian community, the business sector and the service providers and agencies at the Federal, State and Local government levels. Towards achieving its objectives, it aims to :-

• form strong networks with its three main stake holders through strategic alliances, partnerships and memoranda of understanding in order to promote events, programs and projects;

• create innovative, self sustaining and socially conscious ventures and projects in partnership with the business sector who are committed to the philosophy of social entrepreneurship – resulting in a socially aware and cohesive community living in harmony with each other;

• provide improved Access and Equity to information and services available through the federal, state and local service providers for the community's benefit.

THE SEVA LOGO

The story behind the logo

•  The Logo represents on the outside a stylized version of two hands reaching out in friendship, harmony, love and understanding to help those in need;

•  The seven petals of the flower in deeper colors represent the seven countries of the Indian sub continent – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangla Desh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives;

•  The seven pronged star on the inside represent six Australian states of New South Wales , Queensland , Victoria , South Australia , Western Australia , Tasmania together with the Northern Territory and ACT.

THE SEVA WEBSITE

The web design at the beginning once again incorporates the SEVA Logo and the two outstretched hands of friendship, understanding and harmony between the Australian South Asian community and the wider Australian community.

An acknowledgement.

SEVA wishes to place on record its appreciation of the work done by the students of UTS, Sydney ( School of Design and Architecture)towards designing and creating both the Logo and the website as a part of their community work experience.

Similarly SEVA acknowledges the splendid support and assistance it has received from the UTS Shop front both for this project and an earlier project undertaken in 2006 with the students of the UTS school of Business studies in the preparation of a Strategic Plan for SEVA – in particular mention should be made of Ms. Pauline Loughlin and Ms. Lisa Anderson of the UTS Shop front without whose active involvement with these two projects it would not have been possible.
