NSW has 23.3% of overseas born, which is the highest in Australia followed by Victoria at 1,088,784.

Notes:

- It is evident that the bulk of the South Asian migrants to Australia have chosen to live in NSW.

- The community in NSW is predominantly located in the Sydney metropolitan region and based on ancestry figures is spread from Sutherland Shire (South) to Hawkesbury in the North and Bondi in the East, to Penrith in the West.

- The local government areas of Blacktown has over 13.3% of the total, with Liverpool having 10.2%, Parramatta–6.8%; Hornsby-5.0%, Campbelltown-4.6%, Baulkham Hills-4.3% ; and over 41% spread over a number of suburban area.

- During July,2004 –June 2005, Australia took in over 123,424 settlers of which the total South Asian community group was 16,299 which was the 3rd largest settler arrivals after UK at 18,220; New Zealand at 17,345. For the same period over 15,876 Student visas were issued to students from India alone.

- The figures for the community based on the recently concluded 2006 census figures are bound to reveal substantial increases from all the above statistics.
